Tajikistan

Written by Ellen van Drunen on 24 July 2011.

Being a former Russian state, Tajikistan, has a lot to offer to the world cyclist; barren landscapes, very friendly people and unpaved silent roads.

The Pamir Highway is rough, lonely and extreme. The highest pass 'Ak Baital' is situated at an altitude over 4600 meters. The largest part of this 'highway' is above 4000 meter, so it's not for the faint hearted.

The Tajik people are incredibly kind and heartwarming.

We cycled through this incredible country in august 2009. Enjoy the overwhelming nature of our cycle journey.
